Welcoming the Community of Ahlussunnah Wal-Jamaah (JATMA ASWAJA)
The world is facing challenges in various geopolitical, economic and civilizational contexts, as well as threats of conflict between countries and national disunity.
IKHBAR - Welcoming Jam’iyyah Ahlith Thoriqoh Al Mu’tabaroh Ahlussunnah Wal-Jamaah
(JATMA ASWAJA): "Thoriqoh: Spirituality that gives birth to Generosity"
The world is facing challenges in various geopolitical, economic and civilizational contexts, as well as threats of conflict between countries and national disunity. Indonesia—as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world—has a moral and spiritual responsibility to maintain the continuity of Islam which is rahmatan lil ‘alamin.
An Islam that does not merely display a legalistic-formal face, but also one that touches the deepest side of humans: soul, compassion, morals, and inner peace. In this context, thariqah occupies a central position—it is the path of cleansing the soul (tazkiyatun nafs) and spiritual ascent that originates from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and is inherited in a chain by trusted mursyid.
Established on 17 Ramadhan 1446 H, JATMA ASWAJA is present as a big house for practitioners of the mu'tabarah tariqah based on Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah. This organization is led by teacher & national figure Maulana Habib Luthfi bin Yahya as General Chairman & Rois Aam and DR Ir. H. A. Helmy Faishal Zaini as Secretary General of Jatma Aswaja.
Spirit Tariqah: The Path that Forms the Soul
In an authentic hadith, Rasulullah SAW said:
God willing
"Indeed, I was sent only to perfect noble morals."
(HR. Ahmad, al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad, and al-Bayhaqi)
This hadith is the soul of the tariqah movement: perfecting morals through the path of mujahadah (inner struggle), riyadah (soul training), and muroqobah (divine awareness). In a world plagued by political polarization, the commodification of religion, and the loss of meaning in life, the tariqah offers a radical alternative in its gentleness: returning to God with love, dhikr, and total devotion.
JATMA ASWAJA believes that spirituality is not an exclusive luxury for the spiritual elite, but rather a basic need for modern society trapped in existential fatigue. Therefore, the mission of this organization is not merely to maintain tradition, but also to popularize transcendentalism in everyday life.
Two Pillars of the Movement: Transcendence and Empowerment
JATMA ASWAJA is built on two main pillars:
1. Building Transcendentalism
Making the tariqah a way to strengthen the relationship between servants and Allah. In a world full of distractions, humans need a quiet space—and the tariqah provides that space systematically. Dhikr, suluk, and manners to the mursyid are not practices that are foreign to social life, but are instead the foundation of public piety. JATMA ASWAJA invites Indonesian Muslims to return to the tradition of congregational dhikr, recitation of the Tariqah, and strengthening of scientific and spiritual knowledge.
2. Economic Empowerment of the Ummah
The spirit of Tariqah is not anti-world. On the contrary, he encouraged people to prosper the earth. Allah SWT says:
وَابْتَغِ فِيمَا آتَاكَ اللَّهُ الدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ وَلَا تَنسَ نَصِيبَكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا
"Seek (happiness) in the land of the afterlife with what Allah has given you, and do not forget your share in this world."
(QS. Al-Qashash: 77)
Therefore, JATMA ASWAJA is committed to carrying out integral da'wah: purifying the soul and making the economy independent. Through cooperative networks, empowering MSMEs, to philanthropic movements based on Islamic boarding schools and zawiyah, JATMA ASWAJA wants to ensure that thariqah practitioners are not only spiritually strong, but also economically and socially resilient.
Islam Wasathiyyah: Maintaining Balance, Caring for Diversity
JATMA ASWAJA stands on the values of Islam Wasathiyah—a concept of middle Islam that rejects extremism and rigid religiosity. The principles of tawasuth (moderate), tawazun (balanced), tasamuh (tolerant), and i'tidal (fair) have been inseparable values from thariqah practices since the past.
As the word of Allah SWT:
وكذلك جعلناكم أمةً وسطًا
"And thus We have made you a moderate nation." (QS. Al-Baqarah: 143)
The mursyid Thariqoh teach that religion should not lose touch with reality. Because the essence of religion is to teach generosity, namely an attitude of generosity, the strong helping the weak, the rich helping the poor. This is important for the current global and domestic context, which is relevant to the condition of the nation.
The mursyid thariqah, since the time of the Wali Songo until today, have been the guardians of the beauty of Islam through a gentle, polite, and embracing approach. JATMA ASWAJA is committed to continuing that legacy: maintaining harmony between people, nurturing diversity within the framework of ukhuwah insaniyah, and reaffirming akhlakul karimah as the spirit of civilization.
The establishment of JATMA ASWAJA is not just the formation of an organizational structure. It is a sign of the times that Islamic spirituality still has a place in the midst of a fast-paced and shallow world.
